‘Wool Box’ resource kit
Being promoted in conjunction with the Riccarton Cades Wool shop’s opening week, is the “Wool Box” kit for school children, Standards 3 and 4, and Forms 1 and 2. As a combined effort by the New Zealand Wool Board and the Depart-
ment of Education, the kit is an educational resource kit for school children aged between 9 and 13 years.
The language used in the kit is simple and illustrations are colourful. It is designed to be both fun and educational, taking
children from the basicqualities of wool, and its different uses, through to actually learning to knit with the yarn.
The kit is based on two parts; the Knitterbug kit and the Soft Options video. These will all be available at Cades Wool Shop, and during this week, a Soft Options video will be played in the shop, allowing customers to see for themselves what “soft options” has to offer children and beginner knitters in the way of teaching basic knitting skills.
Both resources strip away the mystery and complexity of knitting and present simple steps in easy language for all to follow. Project leaflets, slide sets, teaching packs and booklets offer exciting activities for working with yarn.
