Hostage ‘alive' The kidnapped Japanese businessman, Noboyuki Wakaoji, is alive and well and has been seen by a Roman Catholic priest, Cardinal Jamie Sin said yesterday. Cardinal Sin said Mr Wakaoji was being visited daily by a senior priest, and that he was hopeful that Mr Wakaoji, head of the Mitsui corporation in the Philippines, would be released soon. — Manila “Rambo" revives “Rambo III” will go into production in the United States in five or six weeks, says Sylvester Stallone. The actor is said to have rewritten the script to make Rambo more realistic and less of a cartoon figure. — Los Angeles
Ripping yarn An East German man was saved by his trousers when he fell from a sixthfloor window, A.D.N. news agency said. The man, aged 27, was cleaning the windows of his Potsdam home when he slipped from a ledge, but as he fell a rip in his trousers caught on a jagged edge, leaving him dangling. The police broke down a door and hauled him to safety. — East Berlin Presidential candidate A former Arizona Governor, Bruce Babbitt, has declared himself a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 1988 United States presidential race. Mr Babbitt, aged 49, heir to a $35 million family fortune, tested a campaign slogan by declaring his desire to put “America in charge again” of its economy. — Manchester
