Messrs Brierley, Campbell take top BNZ jobs
PA Wellington The businessman, Mr Ron Brierley, will become the new chairman of the Bank of New Zealand, the Minister of Finance, Mr Douglas, confirmed yesterday. Mr Brierley, who has been a board member since February, 1985, is at present deputy chairman. He will succeed Sir Lewis Ross, who will retire at the end of the month. The new board’s new deputy will be a former Federation of Labour executive member, Mr Rob Campbell. Mr Campbell is at present a member of the Economic Development
Commission and is on the establishment board of New Zealand Post. He is the former secretary of the Distribution Workers’ Federation and has been a member of the board since February, 1985. Mr Brierley heads New Zealand’s largest company. Sir Lewis became a director of BNZ in 1966, and became chairman in 1975. Mr Douglas paid tribute to him yesterday saying he had watched over the growth of what was now New Zealand’s largest trading bank. Two new directors will also be appointed to the board.
They are Dr Susan Lojkine and Mr Peter Leeming, who will be appointed for three-year terms from April. Dr Lojkine, aged 44, is a member of an accounting firm and has had a long association with tax policy development and professional education, he said. She was appointed to the Brash committee on primary sector taxation last year and was a member of the Land Corporation, Ltd, establishment board. Mr Leeming, aged 47, is a group general manager of the retail group, Smiths City Market Group, Ltd. They succeed Sir Lewis and Mr E. J. Keating.
