Mana scheme
Sir, —Your front page (March 12) item on the Mana job scheme, reports Mr Bill Birch as saying that “Mana is going down the plug-hole.” Money approved for expenditure through Mana is
being distributed with caution which shows that it is not one of Mr Birch’s fast-track schemes, done in haste and repented at leisure by the unemployed. Those managing Mana were selected for their sense of responsibility and the last thing that Maoridom needs is for that style of leadership to be condemned. Taxpayers do not want Mana run by the Bill Birch dictum: “Think Big” now; forget about paying till later. — Yours, etc. M. BURKE. , March 12, 1987.
