Pacific Island ships to call at Timaru
PA Timaru Timaru will become the South Island base for a v new shipping service to - the Pacific Islands. The Timaru Harbour Board has attracted the , Sofrana Uni Line to the o port. Two ships will call each month. o It will link the South Island with Pacific Island ports in Papua New ■ Guinea and New Caledonia. Previously the Sofrana Line had called only at Auckland. The two ships will be the Capitaine Cook and • the Capitaine Kermedect. •i The service is scheduled to begin on April 9. Containers, break-bulk
and bulk cargoes will be handled by the ships. Cargoes such as meat, foodstuffs and general cargo will be drawn from throughout the central South Island for the service. Hiding place Italian police found an alleged Mafia boss they had been chasing for months hiding in a specially-built chamber beneath the shower in his home. Officers found a tiny hole leading to the hiding place and arrested Luciano Di Cicco, aged 35, who is accused of being a leading figure in the Camorra, or Naples Mafia, the police said. —Caserta
