Tramper walks out

A tramper overdue in the Arthur’s Pass National Park walked out unharmed yesterday. Mr David Cook, of Wellington, went into the park at the head of the Waimakariri River on February 21 with the intention of traversing the Alps and was expected to come out near Lake Kaniere on Friday. A helicopter search was made on Saturday and continued yesterday. A Greymouth police spokesman said Mr Cook went to a farm near Lake Coleridge and called the police to say he was safe. He said he had been delayed by bad weather.

Mr Cook had made entries in each of the huts he stayed in and had left his family with a copy of his proposed route.
