Selectors find new blood

Four players new to the national jersey have been named in the New Zealand rugby team to contest the Hong Kong sevens and the Sydney international sevens in the next month, both events which New Zealand won last year. They are Alan Crowley (Taranaki), a younger brother of the All Black, Kieran Crowley, Emosi Koioto and Andrew McMaster (both Manawatu) and LindsayRaki (Counties).

However, it is doubtful if Koioto will go away. He Injured a shoulder at the Fresh-up national sevens in Christchurch on Saturday and is not expected to be able to play for about three weeks. The other five selections from rian Lochore, Alex Wyllie and John Hart are Zinzan Brooke, Mark Brooke-Cowden and Terry Wright from Auckland, and Frano Botica and Wayne Shelford (captain), from North Harbour. Brooke, . BrookeCowden, Botica and Shelford were in the New Zealand team which won the two overseas tournaments last year, and Wright was with the others, apart from Shelfqrd, in the New Zealand team which won an international sevens contest in Cardiff a month after the Hong Kong event. Among a number of top players not available this time were David Kirk, Craig Green, Wayne Smith and John Kirwan, all of whom played sevens for New Zealand last year.
