Slipper hope showed tenacious qualities
By

The dominating favourite Injustice owed his win in the Sovereign Lodge Wakefield Stakes at Trentham on Saturday more to his tenacity than to his mastery of the track conditions. The Sydney-owned Ellerslie-trained Straight Strike colt struggled over a surface affected by midweek rain but found enough for David Johnson to win by half a length and encourage his connections to continue with a planned assault on the $1 million Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on April 11.
Injustice is prepared by Gary Ritchie, whose brother Frank also has an important appointment to keep at Rosehill on April 11 — with Bonecrusher in the weight-for-age Tancred Stakes. Garry Stewart, Bonecrusher’s regular rider, will probably be engaged for Injustice as the Ritchie family aims for a spectaccular double on one of the most spectacular days of racing on the rich Sydney autumn carnival. Injustice is owned by Maurice Dunne, Warren Gould, and John Oliver, and is now winner of three races from eight
starts. He credited his sire Straight Strike with a first group win when he triumphed in the Evergreen Lodge Stakes at Trentham in January. That break-through earned the youngster’s owners a $200,000 bonus.
