Man mailed bundle of explosives—Court
PA Auckland A former soldier, who stole and mailed a bundle of explosives to an associate for a supposed armed robbery, was sentenced in the District Court at North Shore to periodic detention. John Cowan, aged 19, unemployed, of Birkdale, admitted stealing four thunder flashes and three smoke grenades from the
New Zealand Army where he was employed as an infantryman. Cowan also admitted taking a $5OOO motorcycle in a separate incident with the same associate to whom he posted the explosives.
Cowan, charged with theft and conversion, was sentenced by Judge Mitchell to four months periodic detention.
