Suburban leader beaten

Heathcote, Merivale-Papa-nui. Southern Districts, and Sumner all gained wins in the tenth round of the Christchurch Suburban Cricket Association’s senior competition on Saturday. The round consisted of 40-over matches.

The competition leader, Hornby, which won last week’s one-day knock-out final, succumbed to a determined Heathcote XI at • Heathcote Domain.

The second-placed Upper Riccarton also lost; it went down to Merivale-Papanui at Edgar Macintosh Park. Chasing 157, Upper Riccarton was contained by the tight bowling of Ron Provan, Ken Stagg and Darryn Leigh, and dismissed for 126.
