N.Z. economy
Sir,—When the theorist devalued our currency, imposed -GST, disqualified superannuitants, severely pruned public services, doubled the cost of postal services, cars, stamps, milk, newspapers, etc., he promised to lower income tax and reduce the national debt, unemployment and the general cost of living. I heartily agree with Mr Knox that working New Zealanders must preserve their standard of living; but not by a constant wage round which keeps crippling our economy. The only sure way of improving our economy is by reducing costs, taxes and services and by making our currency go further and further. Our. grossly expensive theorist has raked in much more revenue than ever; yet all he can promise is still more taxation. Sadly our present exorbitant prices and taxes are here to stay. The last straw is the proposed addition to Parliamentary salaries so grossly inflated in 1984. — Yours, etc., TED MULCOCK. February 21, 1987.
