Sunday screenings and Orientation Week

“Before Stonewall,” a documentary about changing American attitudes to homosexuality, will be screened by the Canterbury Film Society this Sunday, at 2 p.m. at the Academy. The film is a compilation of archive footage, Hollywood clips and pre-sent-day interviews which takes a warm, committed

and intelligent view of the representation of gays in America up to 1969, when the police made a historic raid on a gay bar (Stonewall Inn) in New York and triggered a riot which lasted for two days and politicised many homosexuals. Thought provoking, often funny, frequently touching, “Before Stone-

wall," like “Harvey Milk” before it, is a thoughtprovoking statement. Beginning tomorrow, the society will also screen a series of Orientation Week specials at the Ngaio Marsh Theatre, Canterbury University, at 5.30 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. The programme is: Tomorrow, the original “King Kong, starring Fay Wray.
