Bats on tour

The Bats, of Christchurch, set off on an orientation tour of universities this week, opening at Otago University tomorrow.

Paul Kean, the band’s bass guitarist, said that The Bats would be looking at recording studios while in Auckland to see if there was one they could use to complete their album.

A number of songs had already been recorded at

a private 8-track recording studio in Glasgow while the band were in Britain last year, which would be used for the album.

Kean considered that these were the best that The Bats had recorded, because they were able to achieve a layered, rather than a “live,” sound.

The album would be released later this year, with recording taking place after The Bats

played at an outdoor rock concert, which also features China Crisis (from Britain), Paul Kelly and the Coloured Girls, The Johnnys (from Australia), Herbs, and Dance Exponents, at the Palmerston North showgrounds on March 28.

A video of a song, “I Miss These Things,” had been done by Pat O’Neill, who had worked with Midnight Oil and Look Blue Go Purple.
