The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Ministers answered 12 questions when Parliament sat at 2 p.m yesterday.
The Speaker, Dr Wall, granted an Opposition application for a snap debate on the subject of possible compulsory redundancies for public servants affected by the State sector corporatisation.
Members had begun the weekly two-hour general debate when the House adjourned for dinner at 5.30 p.m.
The debate continued when the House resumed after dinner at 7.30 p.m. When the debate ended, the chairman of the Electoral Law Select Committee, Mr R. J. Northey (Lab., Eden), tabled the committee’s fifth interim report. Members then began debating the committee stages of the Civil Aviation Amendment Bill.
After the committal stages of the Civil Aviation Amendment Bill, the Acting Leader of the House, Mr Hunt, introduced the Statutes Amendment Bill on behalf of the Minister of Justice, Mr Palmer.
The bill was referred' to the Justice and Law Reform Select Committee.
Members then ■ began debating the committee stages of the Recreation and Sport Bill.
The debate was interrupted when the House rose at 10.28 p.m. ,i
