A.C.C. dispels levy fears

Wellington reporter

The Accident Compensation Corporation has dispelled fears that its increased employer levies will be back-dated.

The higher levies will apply from April 1, but some people had thought that employers would have to pay an additional amount for the 1986-87 year, said Mr Steve Anderson, the corporation’s general manager for finance, planning and administration. This was hot correct and probably arose from a misunderstanding of the way the levies were calculated, he said. The employer levies were paid annually in advance, but on the basis of the amount earned by employees in the previous financial year.

This method of calculation had not changed, although the levy itself had risen from an average of 77c a $lOO of payroll in 1986-87, to $2.25 in 198788, said Mr Anderson.
