Expedition’s tough walk

NZPA-Reuter Peking Six adventurers from France are planning to walk across the Talimakan, the great shifting desert of western China known as “The Sea of Death." The New China News Agency said the six, five men and a woman, expected the 430 km walk to take 25 days and said they were looking forward to seeing mirages, beautiful sunrises and sunsets and listening to the sound of the moving sand. A local mountaineering organisation will provide necessities and a helicopter will be put on alert for the journey, to be made in September, the agency said.
