Taking a punt is popular
The English character of Christchurch reached new heights this month when four punts began operating on the Avon River. The Christchurch Punting Company, owned by Tourplan Pacific, and directly aligned to the Thomas Edmonds Restaurant, has already attracted wedding parties, tourists, picnicking Kiwis and even a French film crew filming an Italian fruit juice commercial, ostensibly set in “England.” The punts were custombuilt in Christchurch by an English punt-builder from mahogany and kauri, and are fully upholstered.
The punts depart on demand from the Thomas Edmonds Restaurant landing (Cambridge Terrace, between Colombo and Manchester Streets), from 10 a.m., seven days a week in dry weather. They can also pick up patrons from central city riverside hotels like Noahs and the Vacation Inn at a pre-arranged time and punt them to dinner at the Thomas Edmonds Restaurant. Hours are flexible and special occasions — weddings, anniversaries, picnic parties — can easily be catered for. Telephone 794-834 if you would like more information.
