Streets in good state
Christchurch streets are of an exceptionally high standard this year thanks to two recent falls of rain, say judges of the Christchurch Beautifying Association’s annual street awards. The association announced the city’s three top streets yesterday. They are Roberta Drive (City), the best long street; Doncaster Street (Paparua County), the best short street; and Harkness Place (Waimairi District), the best cul-de-sac. They are, in order of first, second and third place: Christchurch City Papanui, Bryndwr: Kenwyn Avenue, Apollo Place, Hudson Street. Shirley, St Albans, Mairehau, Dallington: Mahars Road, Chilton Drive, Erin St Martins, Linwood, Waltham, Opawa, Beckenham, Sydenham: Staffa Street, Arran Crescent, Ryan Street. Aranui, Bromley, Wainoni, Burwood, Brighton: Eglinton Street, De Blodge Place, Glenrowan Street. Boon Hay, Somerfield, Spreydon: Roberta Drive, Femihurst Street, Hurunui Street. Riccarton Borough Centennial Avenue, Rata Street, Tika Street Heathcote County Hollis Avenue, Parklands Drive, Remuera Avenue. Cul-de-sac: Kanuka Place, Holmcroft Court, Hilldale Place. Paparua County Gladson Avenue, Doncaster Street O’Halloran Drive. Cul-de-sac: . Beaumaris Place, Coronada Place, Birdling Place. Waimairi District Sayers Crescent Seven Oaks Drive, Strathean Avenue. Cul-de sac: Harkness Place, Swithland Place, Hillcrest Place. Group frontages The Riccarton Borough Council has also granted awards for three or more street frontage plantings, as follows: First, 45, 47, 49, 51, 53 Nortons Road. Highly commended for continuing standard: (last year’s winners) 153, 155, 140, 142 Ham Road. Highly commended: 4,6, 8 Highland Place; 2,4, 6,8, 9 Nancy Avenue; 4,6, 8 Harkness Place; 26, 28, 30, 32 Farrington Avenue; 14, 16, 18 Hudson Street; 22, 24, 26 Hudson Street; 22, 24, 26, 28 Sugden Street.
