Landscape paintings by a former Christchurch artist, Andrew Coates, were snapped up by buyers when his exhibition opened at the Peter Small Gallery, Christchurch, yesterday. One of the organisers, Sir Ronald Scott, said 11 of the 15 paintings were sold in the first 30 minutes. The exhibition features 13 New Zealand and two English landscapes. Coates, who now lives in Britain, studied art at the University of Canterbury. ■
