Student enrolment at Lincoln same level

Lincoln College student enrolment numbers appear from preliminary assessments to be about the same as last year, the college’s principal, Professor Bruce Ross, told the Lincoln College Council yesterday. “Commerce enrolments seem to be buoyant,” he said. The student grant credit of $3lBl is $157 short of the total student fees this year. This compares with a grant credit in 1977 of $1104; which was $8 more than a student’s total fees. Professor Ross said that students not only had to face greater costs compared with 1977 but also had more difficulty finding employment during their holidays. “Fees invoices have been distributed to all enrolled students to give them an indication of

their financial situation before they leave home,” he says in his report. The student representative on the council, Miss Maryanne Aynsley, asked the council to consider including three meals a day rather than two in the student ’ accommodation fee, as was the case in 1977.

Professor Graham Robertson said that the inclusion of a continental breakfast in accommodation fees along with two more substantial meals at midday: and in the evening, was under consideration. Hostel use

Mr Gerald Ward said that Lincoln College could probably look forward to more use of its summer hostel accommodation by several overseas groups such ad the Elders Hostel group who stayed there

this summer. “I believe many more groups from countries besides the United States will want to use the hostel facilities in future,” he said. Nominations Mr Edward Pitts has been nominated to the research committee, succeeding Mr Graham Robertson. The nominations for the professorial board are Dr Ray Bickerstaffe and Dr David Painter who succeed Professor R. N. Rowe and Professor A. R. Sykes. Professor Tony Bywater is a nominee on the farm advisory committee, succeeding Professor J. B. Dent. Dr Jock Allison is the new sheep breeding unit representative among the farm policy review groups and Mr Pitts is the new Hunua and research unit representative.
