Te Whata S.I. Shearer of Year
PA Invercargill A Gisborne shearer, Samson Te Whata, took first place in the BNZ South Island Shearer of the Year contest at the Gore Southern Shears at the week-end. Last year’s winner, Larry Lewis, of Carterton, was third this time. The two-day competition began last Friday, with the Shearer of the Year and the Royal Hotel International championship. The Orepuki shearer, Edsel Forde, win the open final on Saturday. Other events included the contractors’ relay final, the senior final and the R. A. Lister senior southern circuit final. Invitational blade shearing, a celebrity goatshearing competition, and a North Island versus South Island event also featured on Saturday. T
