P.M.’s motel sold
PA Auckland An Auckland accountant says he has paid $55,000 for a Parakai motel unit owned by the Prime Minister, Mr Lange. The two-storey unit has been on the market since May. Mr Lange is reported to have paid $46,000 for the unit late in 1984.
■ The unit, part of Hinemoa Motel, was the subject of international publicity in September, 1985, When it was revealed that French
agents subsequently jailed over the Rainbow Warrior bombing stayed in it at least once.
The agents, Alain Mafart and Dominique Prieur, checked in on July 1, 1985, and stayed for two nights. The Lange unit has been bought by Mr Geoffrey Belton. He and his brothers have bought nine of the 12 units.
Mr Lange, who Used to spend week-ends at the motel with his wife and family, said he was selling the motel because it no longer afforded the privacy he wanted.
