Auckland shooter in lead
PA Blenheim Auckland’s Steve Petterson led after the first half of the dual range event at the national smallbore rifle championships was completed here today. The championships are into their third day and conditions were tricky with a strong wind prevailing at the Hawkesbury range. Petterson scored 397-13 out of a possible 400-40 to sneak ahead of Blenheim’s Leon Griebel on 395-22. Christchurch’s lan Pottinger was third with 39521 while South Canterbury’s Russell Burt finished fourth with 395-19.
Pauline Burgess is the top woman in the A grade with 395-10, putting her in sixth position. However, these positions could change dramatically as yesterday’s event was over the shorter 25-yard range. The other half of the event, the 50-metres dual range, will be contested today. Christchurch’s Lindsay Barnes leads the B grade with 392-20, with Blenheim’s John Chauval second with 390-11, ahead of John Powell (Wanganui) on 390-07.
