New Wine and Star Rapier renew rivalry at Gore today

Special correspondent Invercargill New Wine and Star Rapier, the two principals in the finish of the Otago Mannequin Stakes last week, renew their rivalry in the Princess Mellay Stakes (1800 m at the Gore Racing Club’s meeting at Gore today. Rakau Tiffany and Tropical Blend are other proven three-year-old fillies in contention for the “Wrightson Southern Filly of the Year” award. New Wine sustained an undeniable claim to win the Otago race a week ago on a rain-affected track. Star Rapier, only downed in the dying stages, was rated unlucky on that occasion.
