Victorian pacers draw badly

By

G. K. YULE

The Victorian horses, Bag Limit, Alpine Fella and Lightning Blue, fared badly in the barrier draw for the first set of heats of the Lion Brown InterDominion Championship series, which will begin at Addington Raceway on Saturday.

All of them will have to start from the second line, as will Gay Ebony and My Trinket, which will contest the heats of the trotters’ section.

Alpine Fella has drawn No. 16, the extreme outside of the second line, in his heat in which he will be opposed by the current New Zealand champion Master Mood, which has drawn No. 11, but will start from the outside of the front line so long as none of the emergencies re-enter the field.

The Sydney horse, Paleface Bubble, has drawn No. 7, while the Perth visitor, Prince of Princes, will start from No. 4 in this heat.

Bag Limit will be opposed by another Victorian in Quite Famous, which has drawn No. 6 in the second heat, with Sunset Candios, from Queensland, awkwardly drawn at No. 11.

The Television New Zealand Mile winner, Cinimod Junior, has drawn well at No. 3, with Frangelico inside him at No. 2. Lightning Blue, which reverts to his original naming in New Zealand

with the prefix, “My,” being dropped, has drawn No. 14 in the final pacing heat, one inside Luxury Liner, the top-ranked North Island pacer in the series. •

The lightly-framed Paia Royal, from Victoria, comes in at No. 4 in this heat, with Town Royal, from Queensland, at No. 6.

The meeting between Tussle and Game Ebony in the first heat of the trotters’ section will be among the features of the night

Game Ebony, a halfbrother to Downsouth Clare, the winner of more than $lOO,OOO in stakes, is one of the two top trotters in Victoria. His trainerdriver, Dick Lee, is not too concerned about the standing start in Saturday’s heats. “He mightn’t be the fastest out of the barrier, but if he has a bit of room to move about in, he’s usually all right," he said. Game Ebony and the other 12 visiting horses travelled well and settled in splendidly to their new surroundings. A number of them are expected to compete at barrier trials to be held at Addington tomorrow.

The Metropolitan Club will run the T.A.B. double on the second and third heats of the Pacing Championship. The T.A.B. treble will be run on races four, five and six, with the seventh

event being the T.A.B. trifecta race. An on-course treble will be run on races eight, nine and 10. A jackpot, starting with a pool of $lB4, will be run on races five to nine inclusive.
