Major sponsor lost
The City of Christchurch marathon, which has become an annual Queen's Birthday event, has suffered a major setback with the withdrawal of Cadbury Moro as the major sponsor.
“We are disappointed at the late withdrawal of the sponsor after it had indicated that it was keen to continue ” said the chairman of the organising committee, Graeme Purchas. «
Cadbury Moro was a joint sponsor in 1985 and was the major sponsor last year. ? Mr Purchas said that the event would definitely be staged again this year, only the scale on which it will be run had still to be determined.
“Funding such an event is very expensive (last year it cost $72,000) and we rely greatly on input from sponsors. It is a good thing for Christchurch. We hope that a new sponsor can be found and both the- full and half marathons will continue in their present form,” he said.
