Two rescued at beach

Two Hagley High School pupils studying wave action at Taylors Mistake had to be rescued after being sucked into a deep hole at the beach. The pair were rescued by a paid lifeguard, Dougall Holmes, who swam out with two buoyancy tubes and dragged

them to safety. They did not need medical attention. The co-ordinator of the paid lifeguards, Mr Geoff Barry, said the pupils were on a wave study field trip at the beach when they were sucked into the hole about 10 a.m.
