Topless sunbathing

Sir, —I have followed with Interest and some amusement the correspondence on the above subject. I am sure there is a passage in the Bible which reads “and God made man to his own image and likeness.” I think in this instance “man and woman” may be understood. From this it may be deduced that those who think human nudity is wrong are saying that they think God is wrong, which is indeed a very risky assertion. I do not recall anything in the Bible a statement which reads “and God made clothes for man and woman to wear.” However, there is a passage which says of Adam and Eve after they had partaken of the forbidden fruit “that they (Adam and Eve) were ashamed of their nakedness and sought fig leaves with which to cover themselves.” This would appear to prove that clothes were, in fact, first made by man and woman and not only that but by two sinful people. — Yours, etc.,

Sir,—Kathryn Sweeney’s nice old man in a white sheet (February 21), some believe, created the universe and its inhabitants. He gave it natural laws to keep it going, which He had the right of a creator to do. If broken, disaster follows. The white sheet is transferred to the creature in the

morgue. The M.O.T. gives rules of the road for safety. Transgressors punish themselves and others. Women with too many sexual partners may give themselves cancer; men with the same weakness for males may get A.I.D.S. Too many, like Lucifer, want to be God. AH they get is a winding sheet. How many take the precautions in sunbathing that Michael Peters recommends? Did those with emphysema and lung cancer stop smoking before they were offered the old man’s sheet? — Yours, etc., V. H.
