Bid to visit foiled for 140
NZPA-AAP Nandi About 140 people booked on an Air New Zealand flight to Auckland last Thursday were turned away at Nandi Airport because they had no visas, said a New Zealand High Commission spokesman. On Tuesday, only 32 passengers had booked for the Thursday flight That day, New Zealand announced it was ending visa-free entry for Pacific Islanders on visits of less than three months because of abuses by overstayers. About 140 people booked on the flight on Wednesday hoping to beat the deadline but were told by High Commission officials who went to Nandi airport that they would not be allowed in to New Zealand without visas.
