Owners against bore closing
Proposed changes to geothermal legislation have been criticised by the chairman of the Rotorua Bore Owners’ Association, Mr Roger Brewster.
He was commenting on the intention of the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard,
to “strengthen and clarify” the legislation and regulations covering the use of geothermal bores. By giving priority to strengthening the legislation, the Government had revealed that it lacked the legal power to implement
its plans, Mr Brewster said. His organisation was challenging in the courts the Government’s plans to close all bores within I.skm of the Whakarewarewa geothermal field and tourist resort
