Lord Louie impressive

Lord Louie was impressive when he won the C2 and faster pace at the North Canterbury 0.T.8. workouts at Rangiora yesterday. After beginning brilliantly from his 50m handicap, Lord Louie was soon handy and led for the last 2200 m to win by more than nine lengths in a useful 3:23.2 (2600 m Viewfield Prince and Trident headed the chase after Lord Louie, but never really looked likely to catch him. Phillips was another nine lengths back in fourth place. Lord Louie ran the last 800 m in 59.75, while the final 400 m took 29.75. Game Command continued his run of good form by leading throughout to win the Cl and faster trot over 2600 m. He, was sent forward at the 800 m, soon had his rivals covered and won easily by one and half lengths from Lucky Tesp, which just outfinished Joe Junior by a neck for second. Game Command made light work of his 50m handicap and trotted the distance in 3.40, the last 800 m in 61.4 s and the final 400 m in 30.95. Tuapeka Knight (c Smooth Fella—Tuapeka Dream), a member of Brian O’Meara’s team was the most impressive of the two-year-old winners. He led after 400 m and cruised home to win by two lengths from Canasta King, while Kotare Ran-

som was a further eight lengths back in third place. Driven by John Hay, Tuapeka Knight ran the 2000 m in a respectable 2:42.3, with the last 800 m in 59.2 s and final 400 m in 29.15.

Other two-year-old heat winners were Kotare Jac (c Marjac—Kotare Sapphire), which trailed then outfinished his rivals in 2:46.7, and . Houn Bromac which also came from the trail to win by more than ten lengths in 2:47.4.

Other winners over 2600 m and their times were: Star Majestic (CO pace 3:34.2), Helga (CO pace 3:35.1), Black Douglas (CO pace 3:40.6), Glenbrook (CO trot 3:53.3), Mighty Vale (Cl pace 3:36.6), and Sunset Boulevard (mobile 3:28.6).
