’Copter on display at surf competition
Taylors Mistake will again be the venue for the annual Bundaberg K Day surf life-saving competitions on Sunday. It will be the competitors’ final chance to test their rescue skills before the national championships at Oakura, Taranaki, on March 5 to 8. In addition to the usual events at Taylors Mistake, a helicopter rescue demonstration will be held at midday. It will
show the capabilities of a Hughes 500 D Air Ambulance, which is owned by Mount Hutt Air and is the only one of its kind in the South Island. A Canterbury Surf Lifesaving Association spokesman, Mr Simon Duncan, said there were no firm plans to introduce a helicopter rescue service but if more long-distance emergencies occurred., the association might consider it
