PA Dunedin •i • ' John Steel (Auckland) was the star performer when the BNZ national age group swimming championships continued here last evening, wining three more titles. Steel, aged 14, and coached by the former Olympian, Lincoln Hurring, won three gold medals on the' first night and took another three with two New Zealand records last evening.

His first record and title came in the boys’ aged 13-14 200 m medley with a time of 2min 2LOls.

He was pushed strongly by Dallas Hibbs (Canterbury) in

the 100 m butterfly and swam under a minute for the first time with his 59.895. Steel also won the 400 m freestyle but was just under the record. Linda Robinson (Canterbury). who took two titles on the first night of the championships, was an easy winner of the girls’ 15-17 years 200 m medley. She led from the start and was never challenged, finishing in a personal best time of 2:26.44. Michael Osmond (Bay of Plenty) added two more titles — the 100 m butterfly (1:13.17) and the 200 m (2:26.46.).
