Union to discuss worker’s dismissal
• Meat : Workers’ "Union members- who went on strike on Wednesday at G. L. Bowron and Company, Ltd, after the firm dis-
missed a union delegate, plan to discuss the dispute at a meeting on Monday morning.
Neither the union nor the company would outline the reasons why the delegate was dismissed, or give his name. The workers stopped work soon after his dismissal on
Wednesday afternoon, according to the union’s Canterbury branch secretary, Mr Tiny Kirk. “The delegate was told by the firm to finish up that day,” he said. “I will discuss the dispute with union members and possibly with another union delegate on Monday morning at the Trade Union Centre.”
The firm’s production manager, Mr Brian Dearden, said that he hoped the matter could be resolved privately between the union and the firm.
