No change in lamb prices
Lamb production is low in the South Island and the marketing task is becoming more difficult, according to the general manager of the meat marketing division of Waitaki International, Mr C. D. Boyce, yesterday. Tbe period in which M and X grade lambs over 13kg carcase weight were required for chilled and further processed markets in Europe was drawing to an end, he said.
“Lower realisations are expected for lambs killed in March for marketing in the United Kingdom during the northern summer,” Mr Boyce said.
Lamb schedule prices for next week are unchanged, along with the premiums for M and X grade lambs over 13kg, but it is expected that these premiums will reduce by a minimum of $1 a head each week as demand reduces in the marketplace. The only change .in next week’s schedule is an increase of 50c a head in the value of all skins.
