NZPA Wellington The broadcaster Sharon Crosbie has been appointed the director of corporate public affairs with the Broadcasting Corporation of New Zealand.
Announcing the appointment this week the corporation’s chief executive, Mr Nigel Dick, said: “It is vital at a time when public broadcasting in this country is at the crossroads, that we explain the many facets of our operations to all our viewers and listeners; politicians, community and business leaders and, of course, to our staff.”
“Sharon Crosbie has the broadcasting background and the personal qualities to ensure an extremely valuable contribution in this role.”
Ms Crosbie, a graduate of Victoria University, has had a long career with broadcasting, beginning in Christchurch in 1969, and since has worked extensively in radio and television.
In 1984 she was awarded the prestigious Harkness Fellowship and the Nieman Fellowship in journalism at Harvard University.
Since her return to New Zealand she has worked as executive assistant to the chief executive, combining that with frequent speaking engagements on behalf of the corporation.
