Swim records set
PA Dunedin A New Zealand representative, Linda Robinson, of Canterbury, broke a record dating back to 1976 on the first night of the BNZ national age-group swimming championships in Dunedin last evening. It came in the girls 15-17 age group individual medley when Robinson was clocked at smin 4.*665. That beat Monique Rodahl's (Auckland) record by a massive 11 seconds. It was also six seconds faster than the time set by Rebecca Perrott (Wellington) when she was a 16-y ear-old. Robinson was also a convincing winner of the girls 15 to 17 years 200-metres freestyle in 2:10.88. 'JBean Walter (Bay of
Plenty) led from the start and was a comfortable winner of the boys 15-17 200metres freestyle in a personal best time of 1:59.15. <. Walter was also a convincing winner of the individual medley in 4:51.06. That beat the record by five seconds. Four other records fell on the first night of the championships. These went to John Steel (Auckland) in the boys 13-14 years 200-metres freestyle (2:2.71), Phillipa Langretl (Canterbury) in the girls 13 and 14 years 200-metres freestyle (2:11)77), Michael Osmond (Bay of Plenty) in the boys 12 and under 200metres freestyle (2:1127), and Michael Fairweather (Bay of Plenty) in the boys 13 and 14 years 100-metres bactttroke (1:04.60). ,JL
