Kiwi now certification trade mark
The stylised kiwi symbol for New Zealandmanufactured products has become a certification trade mark.
Since January, more New Zealand producers have been able to apply for registration to use the symbol on their goods, according to the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. The president of the federation, Mr Murray Newman, said this week that the decision to make the symbol a certification trade mark was to avoid misuse.
“Users of the symbol will have to register with the federation and apply the symbol only to goods with at least 50 per cent New Zealand content,” he said. "Otherwise, in the case of goods with Australian content sent to Australia, they will have to comply with the C.E.R. treaty requirements.” National sports and other bodies would still be able to incorporate the symbol in emblems and promotional material, Mr Newman said.
