Spangled Chance wins Australian debut
PA Invercargill A rough trans-Tasman crossing did not prevent the former Southland three-year-old pacer, Spangled Chance, winning his Australian debut. The Majestic Chance colt opened his Australian campaign on a successful note from Bob Knight’s stables with a stylish win in an 1800 m race at Moonee Valley. “He got down in the plane on the way over and was not trained too
hard while he was recovering,” said the Invercargill agent, Mr Graeme Anderson, who has returned home from a brief visit to Australia. Last Saturday evening, Spangled Chance finished second to Smooth George, another New Zealandbred three-year-old, in a heat of the Victorian Derby. He was only half a head from the winner at the finish and is expected to give a good account of himself in the final on Saturday night
