British Airways to offer Bangkok stopover soon
NZPA Staff correspondent By TIM DONOGHUE, NZPA Staff Correspondent Hong Kong
British Airways will begin a new service from Auckland to London in April, offering New Zealanders a Bangkok stopover package, said the airline’s manager in Bangkok, Mr Mike Evans.
The inaugural flight was scheduled to leave Auckland International Airport at 11.30 a.m. on Monday, April 6, for London via Brisbane, Sydney and Bangkok, he said. The new flight will replace the existing Monday service, which departs Auckland at 5.45 p.m. for
London via Brisbane, Perth, Bombay and London.
“The flight will open up Thailand for New Zea-land-United Kingdom traffic,” Mr Evans said. The new flight from Auckland (BA10) is scheduled to arrive in Bangkok at 11.15 p.m. on Monday and will leave at 12.25 a.m. on Tuesdays for Heathrow, arriving in London at 7.00 a.m. on Tuesdays.
“The Thai-British Air Services Agreement allows us to operate with traffic rights between Bangkok and Australasia,” Mr Evans said.
He said mini-stay pack-
age fares would be offered to New Zealanders wanting a stopover in Bangkok en route to London.
Mr Evans said the airline would operate four Bangkok-London flights a week from April, which New Zealand passengers could connect with.
Direct 747 services would fly on Monday and Friday nights, and Tristar flights, via Bahrein, on Saturday and Tuesday nights.
The return flight to Auckland from Heathrow via Bangkok, Sydney and Melbourne will leave London at 2.30 p.m. on Saturdays and arrive Auckland 6.25 a.m. on Mondays.
