Car off Buller Gorge road
PA Westport A man swam the Buller River and walked several kilometres along a railway line after his car plunged off the Buller Gorge highway. . Westport police said the man, an Army officer cadet, aged 25, was returning to Waiouru on Monday after an overnight stay in Westport. He went to sleep at the wheel between Ohika-iti and Hawk’s Crag, and the car plunged over a sheer bank. The driver managed to get out before the car sank in the river, but was caught in the current and had to swim to the opposite side.
