Riverina Princess fastest qualifier

The three-year-old Noodlum filly, Riverina Princess, was the fastest of 10 pacing qualifiers at the Peninsula Owners and Breeders trials at Motukarara yesterday. Trained at Wigram by Jeff Whittaker, Riverina Princess led throughout over 2400 m to record 3:12.6, pacing her closing 400 m in 30.3 s to win by a length and a half.

Riverina Princess is from the Timely Knight mare Jenny Mac Faber, a member of the same family as Noodlum and Tactile.

Fractionally slower was Janus (3f Lumber Dream — Rehine) which raced keenly in the open until striding clear 450 m out in

the second heat over 2400 m. She kept up an impressive run to win by 10 lengths in 3:12.7, pacing her closing 400 m in 31.15.

Roydon Ross (4g Roydon Albatross — Hurrania) came strongly from back in the running to win his heat in 3:13.8.

Arwen) 3:13.9. Imperial Time, a leading chance for the Lion Brown Mobile Pace at Addington on Friday, came fast late to win the Cl and faster heat which developed into a sprint home. The Farm Timer gelding paced the 2600 m in a pedestrian 3:42.8, the leaders sharpening . up over their last 400 m in 29.55. Hatton Man, a candidate of the Baked Enamel Mobile Pace on Friday, finished half a head from Imperial Time, with a head to Coma Berenices, an entrant for the DB Flying Fillies’ Heat at Blenheim on Saturday, which tried to lead over the last 1600 m yesterday. Lobell — Scoreboard), a stablemate of Imperial Time in Peter Jones’ Templeton team; led all the way in the Two-Year-Old pacers’ heat over 2200 m, completing the distance in 3:6.9, her closing 400 m in 30.65. Global House (c Clever Innocence — Jo Diana), trained by Michael de Filippi, trailed the winner and ran her to a head at the finish, with two lengths to the Fred Fletcher-trained General James (c Smooth Fella — Chantilly Belle), third throughout. Maiden heat winners over 2600 m were: Swift Boy (3:37.7), Cavalry Man (3:30.4), Pan Flute (3:31.6), Detonate (3:33) and the trotter, King Kerry (3:42.2).
