Paparua prisoners escape
Two inmates escaped from a work party on gardening duties at Paparua Prison yesterday afternoon.
The pair, Peter Geoffrey Whall and Stephen John Watson, were not considered dangerous, said a spokesman for the Christchurch police.
The police were called to the prison about 2.10 p.m. but could find no sign of the pair, who were last seen going towards the Old West Coast Road. They had escaped just before 2 p.m.
The men wore prison uniforms comprising loose blue trousers and grey shirts.
Whall, aged 27, is describd as European, 163 cm (sft sin) tall, of medium build, with red hair and grey eyes. He i has tattoos on the forearms.
Watson, aged 23, is described as European, 180 cm (sft Ilin) tall, of medium build, with black hair and brown eyes. He has tattoos on the right forearm and is missing the left thumb.
