Delicate demolition for Clarendon
Mr Mark O’Malley, a labourer for March Construction, takes to his work with a smile and swing on the first day of delicate demolition of the Clarendon Hotel.
Mr Paul Jones, project manager on site for March Construction, subcontractors for Paynter and Hamilton Developments, said that because of the unusual nature of the demolition, work would be a little slower and a lot more careful.
The Clarendon Hotel
will not be demolished in the usual dusty fashion. Instead, the old hotel facade will remain. “We have had to handseparate the building from the facade,” said Mr Robin Hughes, general manager of Paynter Holdings. Yesterday’s work be-
gan on- the Oxford Terrace side of the hotel near the Public Trust building.
Trusses were removed, and full retention work to allow the facade to stand by itself should be completed by the end of week, said Mr Jones.
