Loubeegin wins heat
PA Palmerston North The Blenheim filly Loubeegin scored an easy win in the first of the DB Export Fillies Series. Heats run at the Manawatu Raceway last evening. Punters elected her stablemate Rae Lock favourite, but she managed only sixth after setting the pace. The win qualifies Loobeegin automatically for the final of the 10-race series, run for $lOO,OOO at Alexandra Park on May 9. Fillies are allowed to win two heats before being ineligible for any of the others. The series continues at Blenheim on Saturday, with a further heat at
Addington on February 11. Loubeegin was never far off the pace last night, and swooped to the lead on the turn before running clear, to score by two and a half lengths. By Noodlum from Lou Marie, Loubeegin was scoring her third win in only six starts. She was driven by Greg Hope (who had earlier in the day driven Innocent Guy to win at Nelson) and is trained by his father Peter. Mary May, a classy two-year-old last season, showed she is coming back to good form by running second after making a big run down the back straight.
