Wang is the latest to market a laptop computer (above and at left, packed for travel). An IBM PC compatible, it runs at BMHz (AT speed), and can use Wang’s word-processing software.
A 10-megabyte hard disk is standard as is a 1.2 Mb floppy disc drive. The machine comes with 512 Kb of RAM (expandable to IMb), a clock, colour display controller, internal modem.
The green LCD screen is easy to read; laptops have caused considerable advances in this logyA thermal printer is built in with a clean print quality. Power is drawn from a large rechargeable bat-
tery or the mains. When the machine is running on AC power the battery is automatically recharged as well. The only snag with this well-made, 6.Bkg (151 b machine is the price — $8995 before GST. This puts it in the bracket of a top AT compatible such as the NEC APC IV, and ahead of an AT-compatible laptop.
But for workaholics with Wang equipment at the office this is just the machine to ruin weekends. For those from nonWang offices it will be a choice between this luxury, PC-compatible jetprop, or a pure-jet AT without the gizmos. .
