Softball bat beats shark
PA . New Plymouth A softball bat made all. the difference in a struggle a New Plymouth fisherman, Peter Saunders, had with a 52.5 kg Mako shark off Port Taranaki on Sunday. Mr Saunders hooked the Mako on a 6kg line while competing in a light tackle fishing contest. He resorted to the bat when the shark threatened to damage his boat during several close encounters. After successfully stunning the shark and getting it back to the port, Mr Saunders took first place in the contest from 46 other anglers.
