Fine for escort agency owner
NZPA Wellington John Howat Ormond, aged 46, who ran an escort agency from his home, was fined $6OO in the District Court at Wellington. Ormond appeared for sentence before Judge Carruthers after having earlier admitted that on November 12 for reward he procured a woman to have sexual intercourse with a man not her husband. Judge Carruthers gave Ormond seven days in which to arrange payment of the fine, in default three months imprison-
ment. He told Ormond it was apparent from police inquiries the escorts “despatched by you by arrangement were involved in acts of prostitution for which you received an agency fee and reward." Ormond, he said, had several previous convictions involving a great variety of offences, including false pretences and bookmaking. "The probation report discloses that you have now decided to disassociate yourself from involvement with the escort agency,” the Judge said.
