Testing time for B team
'Canterbury B will take an eight-point lead into the final round of the national second Xis cricket competition, but it is by ho means assured of retaining the title it won last season.
Only two teams are able to overtake Canterbury should it fail to beat Otago B in its three-day match which starts at Invercargill today, and that
pair, Northern Districts B and Central Districts B meet each other at Pukekohe. Both will be aware that outright points will be needed to give either team a chance of the title and this will place added pressure on Canterbury. If Canterbury managed only first innings points against Otago, Northern Districts, if it gained the
maximum 16 points from Central Districts, would win the championship; if Central Districts took maximum, points, it would finish with the same number of points (48) as Canterbury.
Points after four of the five rounds are: Canterbury 44, Northern Districts 36, Central Districts 32, Wellington 24, Otago 16, Auckland 4.
