Salute to the arts

Entries for the Salute to the Arts sixth annual poetry contest close on March 27. The international contest is sponsored by Triton College, of Illinois, the United States. Last year two New Zealanders, Patricia Bell of Carterton and Jocelyn Hilston of Matamata, were among the 30 prize-winners. Contest winners will have their work published in the Triton College publication “Ariel.”

The themes for next year’s contest are: expectations, survival and opposition. No contestant may enter more than one poem per category. The poems must be limited to 60 lines each. They will initially be judged by a committee of Triton College professors. Michael Anania, of the University of Illinois, will then select the 10 winning poems in each category. Entries should be original, and should not have

been previously published. Poems should be typed separately, and clearly marked with the name, address and nationality of the poet, together with the theme of the poem. Entries should be sent to Triton' College, Salute to the Arts Poetry Contest, 2000 Fifth Avenue, River Grove, Illinois 60171-9983, U.S.A. The college will not return any poems entered.
